The Ocean has had some lessons for me.
Surfing obsessively probably makes this more likely, but since each of our lives is full of events and stories that (I believe) always have deep meaning, I’m sharing.
First was a jellyfish sting. I had neglected to say my protection prayer that day (it’s really the first time I didn’t remember) so maybe that was it. I also had this feeling like I needed to get out of the Ocean, and the sting happened as I was paddling back in. OUCH. MANY HOURS OF OUCH. As you know, I have birthed 10 kids naturally and I found this sting to be horribly painful. It radiated up my leg, into my back and went on like a constant contraction for HOURS (did I mention hours??!).
In the Hawaiian culture, jellyfish are the protectors of the Ocean. They are associated with healing; also, the jellyfish has no brain or heart. These things seemingly get blown around, but yet there’s something to be said for going with the flow. And using your intuition.
The pain brought me some powerful messages and realizations. Nothing is *just* what we see in the 3D reality. All animals that we encounter have their medicines, and it’s our choice to take it or leave it.
And now this week, I hurt my rib while surfing. I could tell you how that happened, technically, but really….the message felt clear from my Ocean Mother. Stay out for a while. Rest. Pay attention to your heart and what is feeling like it needs to be protected. Be aware of when it “hurts to breathe” and what that brings up for you. Take this time and dive a little deep, on land. I’ll see you back in my waters when the message has been received.
Crazy? Maybe. But this is how I live life.
Everything we experience is an opportunity to feel, to learn, to grow and to experience. As my mentor Donna Maria says….”it isn’t happening TO YOU, it’s happening FOR YOU”.
I dare say this is one of the guiding principles in my Magical Mama Circle. Many of the women in the Circle share their lives and experiences and we are all there to witness. Not to tell her what it means, but to trust it does….and be there as that piece unravels for her. Whether that be animal medicine or life events, it’s all the same in the end.
Life isn’t happening to you, it’s happening for you.
