Get Real-Life Wisdom From My 20 Years in Midwifery That They Won’t Teach You in Any Midwifery School.

Stories teach us. Stories inform our own decisions and opinions; they validate our life or leave us with more questions. Stories are the traditional way of the wisdom keeper, because there is so much in a story.
When you listen to these stories I’ll weave (from my real life and experience), you will hear them through your own ears which is your own way of perceiving the world. These stories may be the medicine you need, and the lessons and wisdom that come to you will be your own.
We hear what we need to hear, but a story gives us a framework to listen, and absorb what we need, while discarding the rest.
Stories inspire us. They remind us of what came before, or what could be. Stories make us feel all kinds of things; hearing a story puts the body in the center and we can experience a story as if it’s our own. Stories are neither true or false; they are based in experience but time and names and shapes may shift in the telling, because that is how memory works.
Stories change us, and help us grow.
We’ve all heard a story somewhere along the line that has been passed down for years, or even generations. Think about the power of that story.
The stories I have to share are about midwifery, caring for women, the prenatal time, birth, the postpartum time, loss and more.

My stories as the midwife are mine to tell, and no better than any other viewpoint. But, they are mine to tell in the spirit of collective wisdom being passed down.
What will you remember more, do you think? An outline of the textbook fetal positions or as story that talks about what certain variations looked or felt like, in my eyes? What will you recall later? The clinical signs of hemorrhage or how a woman embodied them? Can you bear to hear the story of loss from my student days? Can you feel the victory of how it felt to witness a woman birth an 11 pound baby with a hand next to his face?
This is my next level teaching; to me, more personal, more profound and more expansive than any text book you could read.
Stories make us think and they make us wonder.
“In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions. When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence?”
