Personal share that maybe has something relatable in it.
I am having a really tough time being out of the water. If you hadn’t heard, I injured my rib and it’s taking more time than I initially realized it would. Whether or not you surf, you may understand if you’ve ever been kept from doing something you really love.
Maybe that is attending women and births. I do remember the times quite well where the Universe held me back from that, and it was equally as frustrating to me as not surfing!
I remember WAYYYYYY early in my “career” as a student midwife, a dear friend was about to birth her first baby. I wanted to be invited SO BADLY.
But I wasn’t, and it turned out to be an epic 3 day birth where everyone in town was there except me:) I heard the stories though, of midwives coming and going, and I remember this friend telling me later how she finally put in her contact lenses (!!) and decided to push her baby out.
Much like surfing, birth has stories. We can live vicariously through the stories; I am doing that now by putting on surf podcasts and listening.
Listening isn’t something we just do with our ears, but our whole selves and our whole bodies. “Talking story” is a cultural concept here in Hawaii, and I feel like I sorta get it. Hearing “story” right now is keeping me focused and optimistic.
I don’t know what your reason might be for listening to birth stories from my midwife life. Maybe it’s because you do wish you were doing that. Maybe it’s to learn or ponder. Maybe it’s just for fun.
Whatever your reason is, I am offering my “talk story” midwife tales as private audios for people that sign up.
I will start sending them August 1., and you have till July 15 to get the intro price of $99/6 months (after that date it will go up to $199/6 months).
Story telling can be so influential, and it can change the way we actually feel or think.
