We are in the middle of birthday season over here!
Yesterday we had my daughter Belgium’s. What sticks out to me about her birth 15 years ago is that it was truly “easy”. I don’t think easy has to be the goal, but that is how she wanted it. She came a week early and it was quick and pretty effortless.
Belgium was my first “land birth” after a few water births, and I never went back to birthing in water after her. It felt so good and so solid to be on land, I wondered why I hadn’t done it sooner.
Today is True’s birthday! His was a more challenging experience because MY LIFE was more challenging. I was in the middle of a legal battle with the state of Arizona over my midwifery license and as a result, ended up choosing a freebirth. I didn’t trust anyone in the licensed midwife category after that and the entire experience COMPLETELY changed my life; his birth, and this era with the licensing board that would soon come to an end. True showed me what was true about myself and about birth, and I eventually ended up giving my license back, in part because of that birth experience.
I knew and felt DEEPLY that women have everything they need and that rules and regs don’t actually serve the sacred mystery. They serve the powers that be, the money and the control.
So, we are celebrating both of these two beautiful souls that chose me and I am SO glad.
Thanks for tuning in over the last 13-15 years and being a part of my journey, in one way or another.
Birth is so transformative and midwifery is at a place where it once again, needs to be redeemed.
PS In the meantime, you can watch our new Youtube channel which focuses on life lessons from surfing. I am surfing as many hours as I can and I can almost promise that the joy I am experiencing out there on the ocean will soon translate into a new birth offering with Margo. Stay tuned!
