Another new surf coach has entered my reality and I think he is “the one”. Hah.
I will tell you why. I want someone to start at the beginning with me as if I know nothing. I do not care at all about moving ahead until I am SURE that my foundation is good. I love the nuts and bolts and being solid. Going out back to bigger waves isn’t an ego contest (to me) or fuel for an adrenaline addiction. (To me, it’s actually a recipe for disaster, but that’s another thing).
Some people don’t enjoy “learning” and other people don’t see the point or understand the approach of “this is how you build a house”. It ALLLL reminds me so much of birth and learning the art of midwifery.
Like surfing, midwifery is an ART with science and learning behind it. Ultimately, people like me (and maybe you) are after the art, but we must also learn the roots and the slow things and the stuff that many people rush past.
There is no way to express the artistic side of a craft without putting in the work. One way or another.
Our Indie Birth Midwifery School has always been (for almost 9 years now!) an example of amazing, foundational learning. With the opportunity to go deeper within the course, and with our community. We don’t start our students off with learning how to control a hemorrhage. What sense would that make, even spiritually or from an embodiment perspective.
We start our students like I am going to start with this new coach; we assume they know nothing (in the best way) and guide them and ask them to first know themselves.
Time and playing a part in actually creating Indie Birth midwives has proven that this is effective, for the right people. For some, it’s boring. They would rather skip the learning all together and just start attending births because….why not? How hard could it be.
(Same with surfing, although human lives aren’t on the line in the same way).
If you are a woman that is called to learning in a way that feels slow and steady, with a heart-centered approach that is more about solid knowings and all the questions rather than the ego-filled role of a birth keeper….
Then our next IBMS cohort may be your little place in the world.
We are offering the June Cohort a scholarship tuition price after filling out the app, and being accepted.
The full tuition of $5555 must be paid in full and classes start June 1.
