I do my best to live my life by following the feeling.
When I am surfing, I am really challenged by this because there is a lot to FEEL and a lot I do not know.
Imagine….being in the Ocean and having a (what feels like huge:) wave coming up behind you. I love this part. It is exhilarating. It is exciting and it is real. One false move or hesitation or being on the wrong place on the board and that wave that could have carried you is now crashing down ON you.
There is some potential for feeling anxiety in those moments as well.
I’ve noticed that when I focus on what the feeling is of the wave, I do a lot better. I catch more waves when I am aware of my body in the larger context of what is happening. Kind of like life. It’s easy to focus on the anxiety (as an example) but that wave that is life is coming.
Can we take it all in?
In the case of a wave, it’s taking in the SOUND of the water. I am only just learning but I know this is important. There is a sound of the “right” wave and a sound of not the right wave. And sometimes there is a sound I can’t place.
There is also the feeling of the speed of the water coming up behind you.
Then there is the feeling of looking over your shoulder and gauging how fast and hard it’s coming at you and what the body needs to do to manage the board to actually catch the wave.
Just like life, it’s complex. There is no one formula. The waves can shape shift, just like life. We can be surprised by what we don’t know or how it turns out way different than what we expected.
What I do know is that I can do it. I can handle the wave and I can handle life. We are such resilient creatures that we can *make do* in nearly every life situation.
But we can’t know everything and we don’t know what we don’t know.
Even in the midst of ALL THAT, we can chose to find peace or joy or abundance.
That is our birthright.
In the spirit of catching waves,
Maryn
